Netflix is expanding its gaming offerings by conducting beta tests for televisions and computers.
The Vice President of Games at Netflix, Mike Verdu, announced this development in a recent blog post.
To increase accessibility, Netflix is initiating a limited beta test for a select group of members in Canada and the United Kingdom.
This testing will commence with specific television models and later extend to include PCs and Macs via compatible web browsers on Netflix.com.
Netflix ventured into gaming by releasing games for mobile devices in November 2021, initially available on iOS and Android platforms.
With this new approach, the company aims to diversify its game offerings.
The initial testing phase will showcase games like "Oxenfree" from Night School Studio and "Molehew’s Mining Adventure."
Television users can play using their smartphones, while PC and Mac users can enjoy these games on Netflix.com, utilising a keyboard and mouse.
According to Mike Verdu, the goal of expanding game availability across various devices is to enhance the gaming experience for Netflix members globally.
The company also revealed compatibility with devices from partners such as Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, and Roku.
In conjunction with the current in-house development of 16 games, Netflix intends to launch an additional 40 games later this year, with 70 games currently in development through partnerships.
For TV gameplay, Netflix introduced the Netflix Game Controller app for iPhones and iPads, which serves as a virtual gamepad.
Netflix's gaming initiative is focused on delivering an inclusive and accessible gaming experience to its members, and these beta tests signify the next phase in pursuing that objective.
